Restaurant and Café
option 1

type: hospitality

client: private

location: Koper, Slovenija

project date: 2015

completion date: in progress

floor area:

The elite location of an existing restaurant/beach bar/coffee shop/ice cream parlour and patisserie offers multiple possibilities in planning the renovation of the dated buildings. Since it is located right next to the sea and climate conditions are favourable, the first and obvious thought is large floor-to-ceiling windows that open entirely so easy flow between indoor and outdoor spaces is enabled.

Two separate proposals were introduced. The one shown on visualisations below, also the bolder one, was a modern reinterpretation of pitched roofing that is common all around Istria and the town of Koper, where the buildings are located. It is also an image of the mountains that are seen from the restaurant and café’s terrace on a clear sunny day. Wood creates a domestic feel in contrast to the concrete floor finish in- and outdoor (easier cleaning and a continuance of flooring so the border between in and outer spaces is, in fact, blurred).
